Google Suggest;a tool that stirs controversy

Useful for some, bad for others, the assisted search tool Google Suggest does not unanimous. What this tool can be helpful? Why does he regularly subject to litigation or controversy?

Google Suggest, what is it?

Appeared there over a year, Google Suggest appears as a tool for real-time suggest a number of expressions to users when they start to enter a query. So if you cannot find the term for what you are looking for, Google will suggest.

An improved tool suggestion was even made a few weeks ago. Now when a user searches for information related to certain subjects, Google may suggest results in the form of images.

This type of application concerns including: weather, flight information, local time, currency conversions, etc. …

It must however be noted that the results suggested by the tool of Google, are classified either alphabetically or according to the number of results. They are actually classified according to the frequency of searches.

However that may be, it appears clear that the results suggest, Google directs the same time their research. Assisted research could therefore have some impact on traffic of a site.

A useful tool for Referrals

For many professional SEO, Google Suggest is now seen as a real booster for the traffic of a site. By raising the percentage of site visits for each query, we arrived at two conclusions. The first conclusion tells us that assisted research is actually used by the Internet. It thus provides a significant traffic to sites. The second shows that the first lines of the suggestions are more selected.

With Google Suggest, the Referrals will equip therefore an effective tool to reveal which keywords are most promising for their sites. But if the tool is the delight of some, it may also be the misfortune of others.

The assisted search is now used by many people. Guided by these proposals, people can fall on the results for the least unexpected … and rather degrading to the image of a company. Thus, some companies have been unpleasantly surprised to see in Google’s suggestions, their names associated with deleterious effects, such as “scam”. The consequences of such a combination can be catastrophic for the reputation of a site to users. That is why some companies have decided to take action to enforce their rights.

Various court decisions have also been made to this topic. One of them opposed to the Google company Direct Energy. The latter accused the search engine combining the name of their company with the word “scam”. In its decision of May 7, 2009, the Commercial Court upheld the application of Direct Energy and conceded that Google had participated directly or indirectly, disparagement of the plaintiff company. The deletion of the term “direct energy scam” has been ordered.

A similar decision was rendered by the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Paris in its ruling of December 4, 2009. The dispute was between the time the search giant to society CNFDI The argument advanced by Google, objectivity and the automaticity of feature, was not accepted by the court. The Court therefore ordered the suppression of the suggestion “CNFDI scam” by specifying that the search item in question to guide the users’ curiosity and thus to convey a negative image of the company on the web.

In trying to bring more convenience and comfort to users, Google has provided professionals referencing a useful tool, but was put in a difficult position vis-à-vis businesses. And as if that were not enough, the tool of the U.S. giant is currently the focus of a big controversy in the United States.
